I have been trained in a number of different massage modalities, and I always blend many different techniques into each session. This way, I am able to customize your massage to meet your needs. Some of the modalities I use more frequently are swedish relaxation massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, and (for expecting mothers!) prenatal massage. I specialize primarily in deep tissue techniques.

More information on types of massage:
Swedish Relaxation Massage:
Swedish massage is the most common modality performed and often what people think of when imagining massage. Using long, flowing strokes, this technique promotes muscular relaxation and improves circulation. Pressure used varies greatly, depending on the client's preferences and treatment goals.
Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep tissue massage is something of a catch-all phrase that refers to several different modalities. When a client requests a deep tissue massage, they are generally referring to a session that will target the deeper levels of muscle and connective tissue to relieve pain or stiffness. Neuromuscular therapy and myofascial release are two examples of techniques used in deep tissue work.
Warm Bamboo Massage:
Warm Bamboo massage, or Mu-Xing Therapy, is a treatment using warm bamboo and rosewood tools to perform deep tissue massage techniques. Using different sized and shaped tools, I can apply a variety of massage strokes which address tight muscles and promote a deep sense of overall well being and relaxation.
Myofascial Release:
Myofascial release (MFR) is a technique that is useful for increasing flexibility and range of motion. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and connects all our muscles; if injury, postural stress, or overuse impact the fascia, we are left with restricted movement. MFR is designed to "melt" tightened fascia, allowing the body to regain a more free range of motion. This modality is slow and passive, done without cream or lotion. While it may feel like "nothing is happening," you may be surprised at the results MFR can yield!
Neuromuscular Therapy:
If you are looking for something to "get rid of knots," this is for you. This modality is focused on releasing those "knots" - trigger points. After warming and relaxing the muscles, deep pressure is applied to the trigger points in order to release the restricted fibers. Communication between the client and therapist is key with neuromuscular therapy; it can be an intense sensation, but should not cause pain!
Prenatal (pregnancy) Massage:
For the mom-to-be, prenatal massage is a form of Swedish Massage designed to safely address some of the physical stressors of pregnancy. Pillows are used to bolster the client in a comfortable position for the session, either on their side or semi-reclined. Pressure if often light and relaxing, though deeper pressure can be used at the clients request. The work uses broad, sweeping strokes in lieu of specific or focused pressure.
